Spring Valley man sentenced to 10 years after firing into vehicle and nearby apartments

Ten years handed down in Spring Valley gun case

NEW CITY, NY – A gun dispute that escalated into repeated shots fired at a vehicle and into nearby apartments has ended with a decade-long prison sentence for a Spring Valley man, according to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Anderson Alvarado-Jimenez, 21, of Spring Valley, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for illegally possessing and using firearms during a violent incident on East Eckerson Road in the Village of Spring Valley. The sentence was imposed by Judge Kevin F. Russo and includes four years of post-release supervision and a permanent order of protection.

The case stems from a July 19 incident that began with a dispute between Alvarado-Jimenez and a co-worker over their shared work vehicle. Investigators said the defendant retrieved a revolver and fired two shots into the parked vehicle, which was unoccupied at the time.

Authorities said Alvarado-Jimenez then left the area, obtained a second firearm described as an AR-15 style rifle, returned to the scene, and fired additional rounds into the same vehicle. Several of the rifle rounds passed through the vehicle and into nearby occupied apartments.

After the shooting, the defendant fled and later disposed of both firearms in a body of water at Bowline Point Park in Haverstraw. He was apprehended approximately two days later by Spring Valley police.

Alvarado-Jimenez later pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, resolving the indictment. The investigation involved Spring Valley police with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team.
