STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A wave of vandalism targeting public park bathrooms has prompted increased police patrols and the installation of security equipment across Stafford Township, according to a statement released Friday by the Stafford Township Police Department.
The department reported multiple incidents of damage, including graffiti, arson, broken fixtures, and the theft of locks and chains from park restroom facilities. These acts, police said, are not only costly but impact the entire community.
“These bathrooms are a convenience provided to the public and funded by Stafford Township taxpayers,” the department stated. “Damaging them impacts everyone who uses and enjoys these parks.”
In response, police have enhanced security measures, including new locks and surveillance cameras, in an effort to identify and deter those responsible. Additional patrols have also been assigned to park areas.
Authorities emphasized that acts such as criminal mischief and arson are serious crimes and may lead to significant charges under New Jersey law.
Police encourage community vigilance as investigations continue
Township officials urged parents to speak with their children about the consequences of vandalism, noting that many young residents regularly use the affected parks.
Investigators are seeking assistance from the public and have encouraged residents to submit any tips anonymously via the police department’s online form.
No suspects have been identified, and it remains unclear if the incidents are connected or the work of a single individual.
The damages are under assessment, and the township has not yet disclosed the total cost of repairs or security upgrades.
Officials said the community’s cooperation will be vital in preventing further incidents and maintaining the safety and usability of public spaces.
