BOSTON, Mass. — Boston Police arrested a man Friday evening in connection with the vandalism of a veterans war memorial located at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Henshaw Street in Brighton.
Detectives from District D-14 took the suspect into custody at approximately 7:42 p.m. following an investigation into the damage at the memorial, which honors veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
The man, whose identity has not been released, is facing charges including vandalism to a war and/or veterans memorial. Police confirmed the suspect is also undergoing a mental health evaluation.
The investigation was launched after the damage to the memorial was discovered, prompting a strong response from local residents and veteran organizations.
Police said their inquiry was “comprehensive,” though details on the timeline of the vandalism and the nature of the damage have not been disclosed.
