Man charged after secretly filming victims at Leesburg Target and other stores
LEESBURG, VA — A 36-year-old man is behind bars after police say he filmed multiple victims without their consent inside a Target store in Leesburg, sparking a broader investigation that uncovered similar incidents across several Virginia jurisdictions.
The case began on June 28, when Leesburg police were alerted that a man had taken an “upskirting” video of a shopper at the Target on Edwards Ferry Road NE. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already left the store.
Detectives later identified the suspect as Tate Dietrich and, during the investigation, uncovered at least four more victims who had also been filmed without their knowledge. On August 11, multiple law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at Dietrich’s home in Bedford, where investigators located additional evidence.
Dietrich now faces four charges of unlawful filming in connection with the Leesburg incidents. Authorities say he also committed similar acts at stores in Bedford and Roanoke County.
He was charged in Bedford and is currently being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Lynchburg. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are possible as agencies review evidence from multiple locations.
