Teen busted after failed scooter carjacking attempt in Northwest DC

Police say a 15-year-old assaulted a scooter rider but couldn’t get the vehicle started before fleeing the scene.

WASHINGTON, DC — A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after police say he assaulted a scooter rider during an attempted carjacking in Northwest DC, but was unable to operate the scooter before fleeing.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the incident happened at approximately 2:52 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, in the 1400 block of Irving Street, Northwest.

Police said the victim was seated on a scooter when the suspect approached, assaulted the victim, and attempted to take the scooter. Investigators said the suspect was unable to operate the scooter and fled without it.

On Tuesday, July 14, the juvenile was arrested pursuant to a DC Superior Court custody order. Police identified the suspect only as a 15-year-old boy from Northeast DC because he is a juvenile.

He was charged with carjacking.
