SELDEN, N.Y. — A 15-year-old boy from Selden has been indicted for the murder of his grandmother and the attempted murder of his mother following a violent knife attack allegedly sparked by a dispute over the teen’s computer, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced Wednesday.
According to investigators, the teen became enraged on April 7 after his mother confronted him about missing school. When the boy’s grandmother suggested his laptop be taken away, he allegedly responded by grabbing a knife and stabbing her more than 35 times.
The mother was also stabbed during the altercation but survived by pretending to be dead. After she fell to the ground, the teen allegedly returned to continue stabbing his grandmother. She died at the scene. The mother remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
“This is an exceptionally tragic case that has devastated a family,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Our office will pursue justice for the victims of these horrific acts.”
The teen was arraigned on April 16 before Judge Karen Kerr in Suffolk County Court. He faces charges of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, and first-degree assault — all violent felony offenses.

Prosecutors allege the knife attack unfolded shortly before 9:40 p.m. on April 7 inside the family home. Authorities have not released the names of the victims due to the age of the defendant and the nature of the case.
