Texas son charged with murder after 911 call, accused of using father’s credit cards

A father was found dead inside his Conroe home after a morning 911 call, setting off an investigation that led to his son’s arrest and accusations that he used the victim’s finances after the killing.

CONROE, TX – A Montgomery County man is facing a murder charge after deputies say he called 911 to report finding his 81-year-old father dead, only for investigators to later tie him to the killing and alleged financial abuse. Justin Blount, 38, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on Monday in connection with the death of James Raymond Blount at a home on Trails End Road.

Deputies responded around 8 a.m. Monday after Justin Blount reported discovering his father’s body. At the scene, James “Mr. Jim” Blount was found with what officials described as an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead.

Investigation leads to arrest

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the case quickly shifted as investigators examined activity following the death. Deputies said Justin Blount had used his father’s credit cards “without authorization.”

As the investigation developed, authorities said the evidence extended beyond financial activity. Deputies stated that “evidence indicated that he not only used the victim’s financial resources, but is also responsible for his murder.”

Detectives have not publicly detailed the specific evidence linking the son to the shooting. In addition to the murder charge, Justin Blount is also accused of credit or debit card abuse against an elderly individual.

Community reacts to victim’s death

James Blount was known in the community as a longtime horseman and a respected figure among friends and neighbors. Those who knew him described him as generous and deeply kind.

“This is truly a remarkable man that we lost,” said Linda Young. “Jim was one of the nicest people you would ever meet. He would give you the shirt off his back. To have this kind of insanity done to him is just shocking.”

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to review evidence connected to the case.
