To be considered for the Patrolman or Class II SLEO position, applicants must meet the following criteria at the time of appointment:
- Reside in New Jersey and hold U.S. citizenship.
- Fall within the age range of 18 to 35 years.
- Possess a minimum of an Associate’s degree or two years of full-time college credits (equivalent to 64 credits). The educational qualifications should be recognized by the American Council on Education, as listed in Accredited Institutions of Postsecondary Education. Alternatively, applicants with active military service may substitute or combine their service with college credits, totaling two years of education and/or active military service. Active military service will be converted at a rate of 2.67 college credits for each full month (30 days) of completed service.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform all tasks, duties, and essential job functions required of a police officer.
- Hold a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
- Have a clean criminal history and exhibit good moral character.
