Third suspect arrested in 2019 fatal stabbing of 16-year-old in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON, DC – Authorities have arrested a third suspect in the 2019 killing of a Frederick, Maryland teenager who was found stabbed to death in a wooded area off Canal Road NW, the Metropolitan Police Department announced Thursday.

On April 27, 2019, at approximately 7:24 p.m., officers responded to the 5200 block of Canal Road NW for a report of an unconscious person. Police located a teen male with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified as 16-year-old Eberson Guerra-Sanchez of Frederick, MD.

More than six years later, law enforcement continues to pursue suspects linked to the homicide.

The most recent arrest occurred Wednesday, October 15, when members of the U.S. Marshals Service located and arrested 23-year-old Selvin Daniel Urizar-Hernandez, of no fixed address, in Falls Church, Virginia. At the time of the murder, Urizar-Hernandez was a juvenile but will be charged as an adult. He will be extradited to Washington, DC, to face charges of First Degree Murder While Armed pursuant to a DC Superior Court Grand Jury indictment.

Two other suspects have already been apprehended in the case.

On July 9, 2024, 25-year-old Pedro Alexander Joya Argueta of Frederick, MD, was taken into custody by MPD’s Fugitive Unit after being transferred from the U.S. Marshals Service. He was charged with First Degree Murder While Armed – Felony Murder under a DC Superior Court bench warrant.

More recently, on September 19, 2025, 26-year-old Erick Palacios-Argueta, of no fixed address, was arrested in Reisterstown, MD, by the U.S. Marshals Service. He faces a Grand Jury indictment for First Degree Murder While Armed (Gun) and is awaiting extradition to Washington, DC.

The case remains under active investigation, and a reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to further arrests and indictments related to this violent crime.
