Tire thief slams Sayreville patrol car before fleeing onto Parkway in late-night heist

Suspect accused in string of Sayreville thefts after Route 9 bust

Sayreville, NJ — A rim and tire theft at a Route 9 rental lot exploded into a dramatic scene when the suspect rammed a patrol vehicle and led officers on a high-speed chase onto the Garden State Parkway before vanishing into the night.

On the evening of January 9, 2026, Patrolman Dufrat of the Sayreville Police Department encountered a theft in progress at the Enterprise Rental Car parking lot. The suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Randy Williams of South Orange, was reportedly attempting to remove rims and tires from a vehicle when approached by police.

As the officer intervened, Williams allegedly collided with the patrol car and fled the scene. A pursuit followed onto the northbound Parkway, but officers terminated the chase due to safety concerns.

Detective Pirigyi later launched an investigation that led to Williams’ arrest. Authorities say evidence recovered during the case links him to several other thefts throughout Sayreville, resulting in 17 additional criminal charges.
