TOMS RIVER, NJ – The Toms River Township Council has moved their meeting dates from Tuesday where it has been held historically for many years to Wednesday night. The decision was made to accommodate the township’s political patronage attorney Gregory P. McGuckin’s schedule.
McGuckin has been a no-show at town council meetings for nearly two years after being appointed to the job valued at approximately $250,000 per year. Instead, McGuckin has spent his Tuesday nights in nearby Jackson Township, earning $200,000 per year to serve as that town’s legal counsel.
“The Township Council unanimously voted to hold its 2022 Regular Meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month during the Reorganization Meeting on January 3,” the township said in a statement. “The meetings will be held in the L. Manuel Hirshblond room in Town Hall, 33 Washington St, at 6PM except for the December meetings which will be at 5 pm. In 2021 the Regular Meetings were held on Tuesdays.”
The Toms River Council meeting will now be held at the same time as the Toms River Regional Schools Board of Education meetings held at Toms River High School North on the same days at 6 pm.
McGuckin attended his first township meeting nearly two years after being hired on January 3rd.
