From paddleboarding and surfing to pickleball, STEM camps and fitness classes, Toms River residents still have plenty of opportunities to stay active before summer comes to a close.

TOMS RIVER, N.J. – Summer may be winding down, but the Toms River Recreation Department is keeping the calendar full with dozens of activities for children and adults throughout August and September.

The department’s late summer lineup features outdoor adventures, sports clinics, educational camps and wellness programs, with registration available through the township’s CommunityPass system.

August features camps, paddleboarding and STEM activities

Children can choose from a variety of outdoor programs, including stand-up paddleboarding, surfing and bodyboarding camps offered with Coastline Adventures throughout August.

Sports enthusiasts can also participate in a week-long multi-sport camp for ages 5 to 12, tennis camp at Snug Harbor, and family paddleboarding sessions. Young entrepreneurs can learn business basics during the “Spark My First Lemonade Stand” program, while aspiring investigators can enroll in a Crime Scene Investigation STEM camp taught by retired and active police officers.

Additional children’s offerings include cooking classes with Chef Sue, group paddleboarding sessions and several specialty outdoor recreation programs.

Adults also have numerous options during August, including yoga at Shelter Cove Beach, pickleball lessons, women’s and coed surf camps, stand-up paddleboarding sessions and additional fitness classes.

September transitions to fall programming

As the school year begins, recreation programming shifts toward fall activities while continuing several popular outdoor offerings.

Children can register for Parent & Me Multi-Sport with USA Sports, tennis programs at Snug Harbor, stand-up paddleboarding sessions and an eight-week 3D printing course using 3Doodlers. The recreation department also announced upcoming marine science and Mad Science programs scheduled for October.

Adult offerings during September include pickleball lessons, Zumba, yoga classes, women’s and coed surf camps, Parent & Me Multi-Sport sessions and additional paddleboarding opportunities.

Registration now open

Registration for August and September programs is available online through the township’s CommunityPass portal. The recreation department notes that an out-of-town fee applies to participants who are not Toms River residents.

Additional information is available through the Toms River Recreation Department at 1810 Warren Point Road or by visiting the township’s recreation webpage.
