MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A New Jersey Transit train operator was killed and 16 passengers were injured Monday morning when a tree fell onto a southbound River Line train traveling from Trenton. The incident occurred around 6:04 a.m., just north of the Roebling Station, officials said.

The tree struck the front of the train as it moved along the tracks. Emergency responders, including EMS, police, and fire crews, arrived at the scene and transported the injured passengers to nearby hospitals. The severity of the injuries has not yet been reported.

Authorities have closed roads in the area, including the southbound side of U.S. Route 130 in Burlington County, as the New Jersey Transit Police continue to investigate the incident.

River Line service between Florence and Trenton has been suspended in both directions. Substitute bus service is being provided for affected passengers until further notice.
