Trenton man busted in fatal Ewing stabbing caught on video as kids tried to stop fight

Ewing Township, NJ – A Trenton man has been arrested and charged with murder in a fatal stabbing that unfolded on a residential street in Ewing Township earlier this month, an incident investigators say was largely captured on cell phone video and occurred in front of young children.

Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey announced that Davon Holloman, 35, of Trenton, was taken into custody on January 22 and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Jimmy Chase, 40, of Philadelphia. Holloman also faces third- and fourth-degree weapons charges and three counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the stabbing occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. on January 8, when officers were dispatched to the first block of New Hillcrest Avenue following reports of a man who had been stabbed. Responding officers found an adult male lying in the street with multiple apparent stab wounds to his torso.

The victim was identified as Chase, who was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment. He succumbed to his injuries the following morning, authorities said.

Investigators determined that Holloman and Chase were involved in a physical altercation prior to the stabbing. Chase was identified as the father of Holloman’s girlfriend’s children. Prosecutors said most of the confrontation was recorded on a cell phone video, which shows Holloman’s three young children attempting to intervene and break up the fight.

The investigation was conducted by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force in coordination with the Ewing Police Department. A motion has been filed by the prosecutor’s office seeking to detain Holloman pending trial.

Officials said the case remains under investigation. Detectives continue to review evidence and interview witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.
