Harwood couple found shot dead in home

Tragedy unfolds in Harwood home as couple found dead in suspected domestic shooting

BEL AIR, MD — The silence at a Harwood residence turned into a deadly discovery Tuesday afternoon when two bodies were found inside the home, each with gunshot wounds, in what investigators now believe was a domestic-related incident.

The unsettling scene began to unfold around 1:40 p.m. when someone familiar with the homeowners grew concerned after not hearing from them for days and requested a welfare check at the 100 block of Harwood Road. When officers arrived and entered the house, they found an adult woman dead on the main floor and an adult man deceased in the basement.

Detectives with the Anne Arundel County Police Criminal Investigation Division quickly launched a homicide probe. Preliminary evidence pointed to gunshot wounds as the cause of death for both individuals, and officials stressed that there was no broader threat to the public.

Hours later, the deceased were identified as 78-year-old Sharon Ann Waldow and 62-year-old Mark Edward Waldow. Both lived at the residence.

Authorities say evidence collected at the scene suggests the incident was domestic in nature, but have not released further details about a possible motive or the timeline leading up to the deaths. The bodies have been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsies, which are expected to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather information. Police are encouraging anyone with knowledge of the couple or the situation to contact the Anne Arundel County Homicide Unit or submit tips anonymously.
