WASHINGTON, D.C. — Gunfire broke out in Congress Heights just after noon Friday, leaving an 18-year-old man dead and two others injured in a Southeast D.C. neighborhood.
At approximately 12:24 p.m. on April 18, Seventh District officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1300 block of Savannah Place, Southeast. When officers arrived, they discovered an unconscious male victim in the rear of the 1300 block of Congress Street.
DC Fire and EMS crews attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Christopher Daniels, 18, of Southeast, D.C.
Two other victims — an adult male and a juvenile male — self-transported to area hospitals for treatment. Their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
Detectives have not released any suspect information, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
Police offer reward for information
The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Tips can be submitted via phone or text message through the Department’s anonymous tip line.
