It seems like Joe Biden’s forgetfulness is rubbing off on other officials in Washington, D.C. This week, Attorney General Merrick Garland, when asked, said he does not recollect whether or not he spoke to the FBI regarding the Hunter Biden investigation.
“I don’t believe that I did,” he added.
He clarified and said he kept his promise to not interfere with the investigation, however, he maintained that he has no idea if he ever spoke to anyone in the FBI regarding a criminal case involving President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.
Hunter Biden, the 53-year-old son of President Joe Biden, is set to appear in a federal court on October 3 after being indicted for allegedly lying on a form to acquire a handgun in 2018 and for illegal drug use while in possession of the gun.
The indictment came last week following a broad investigation by U.S. Special Counsel David Weiss. According to court documents, Biden allegedly provided false information on a form while purchasing a handgun. Additionally, he is charged with being an illegal drug user in possession of the weapon. Hunter Biden’s lawyer has indicated that his client plans to plead not guilty to the charges.
Hunter Biden had requested to appear for the hearing via video link, citing logistical challenges. However, U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika denied the request, ruling that an in-person appearance would bolster the “public’s confidence that the defendant is being treated consistently with other defendants,” as per Weiss’s argument.
This case marks the first time that a sitting U.S. President’s child has faced federal prosecution. The proceedings are drawing heightened public attention given the unique situation.
