Union County player hits $7M lottery jackpot

June 2, 2025

TRENTON, N.J. — A Union County lottery player hit it big in the May 14 Cash 4 Life drawing, winning the second largest New Jersey Lottery prize of 2025 — a $7 million cash option. The win also brought a major bonus to the retailer that sold the ticket.

The winning ticket was sold at Quick Stop Deli and Grill in Union Township. As a result, the store earned a $30,000 bonus from the New Jersey Lottery. The identity of the player has not yet been made public.

Retailer commissions and bonuses are a key part of the Lottery’s economic impact, with nearly 6,800 retailers across the state earning a combined $214 million in fiscal year 2024. Store owners like Tom and Rita Patel, who have run Quick Stop for over two decades, say the Lottery plays a major role in daily business.

Cash 4 Life tickets are available in nine states and offer a chance to win lifelong payments or a lump sum cash prize. Players pick five numbers from 1 through 60 and a Cash Ball from 1 through 4. Drawings are held nightly at approximately 9 p.m.

Retailers benefit beyond bonuses from big lottery wins

While big wins bring short-term celebration, store owners say it’s the daily ticket buyers and local support that matter just as much. Lottery Director James Carey emphasized that lottery retailers are essential to the program’s success, helping connect local communities to statewide economic benefits.

The winner has 12 months from the draw date to claim the prize.
