Upper Darby grocery store sells $100K Powerball ticket

A $1 Power Play add-on doubled the Delaware County ticket from $50K to a six-figure prize

UPPER DARBY, PA – A Powerball ticket sold at an Upper Darby grocery store turned into a $100,000 winner Saturday night after the player added Power Play, doubling what otherwise would have been a $50,000 prize.

The Pennsylvania Lottery said The Fresh Grocer of Upper Darby, located at 421 South 69th St. in Upper Darby Township, sold the winning ticket for the Sept. 12 drawing.

The ticket matched four of the five white balls plus the red Powerball.

Saturday’s winning numbers were 14, 16, 23, 58 and 69, with Powerball 3.

The ticket would normally have won $50,000, but the player purchased the $1 Power Play option. A 2X multiplier was drawn, boosting the prize to $100,000 before applicable withholding.

The Fresh Grocer will receive a $500 retailer bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The Pennsylvania Lottery does not know who holds a winning retail ticket until the prize is claimed and the ticket is validated.

The winner has one year from the drawing date to claim the prize.

More than 31,300 other Pennsylvania Powerball tickets won prizes of varying amounts in Saturday’s drawing. The Lottery said more than 7,100 winning tickets included Power Play and more than 3,900 included Double Play.

The Powerball jackpot rolled to an estimated $251 million annuity value, or $106.6 million cash, for Monday night’s drawing.
