Authorities say multiple suspects exchanged gunfire after dispute escalated along Atlantic Avenue
Virginia Beach, VA — Eight people were wounded in a Virginia Beach Oceanfront shooting, leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect now facing multiple felony charges, police said.
Isaiah Charity, 18, of Richmond, was arrested April 13, 2026, and charged with eight counts of aggravated malicious wounding, eight counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and eight counts of reckless handling of a firearm causing injury, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.
Shooting followed altercation between groups
The gunfire erupted around 9:50 p.m. on April 11 in the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue, where officers on patrol responded to shots fired and a ShotSpotter alert.
Police said eight individuals were found suffering from gunshot wounds and transported to local hospitals. Their injuries ranged from non-life-threatening to serious, but all are expected to survive.
Investigators determined the shooting began after an altercation between two unrelated groups of young adults and juveniles escalated into an exchange of gunfire.
Multiple suspects identified
Authorities said at least three individuals fired weapons during the incident, including one suspect who was also among those shot.
Police previously identified Jamya Williams, 18, of Henrico County, as a suspect who was taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, firearm use in a felony, reckless handling of a firearm, and violations of a protective order.
Charity had initially been sought on warrants before his arrest this week.
