Virginia Man Picks Worst Possible Time and Place to Drive Recklessy, Outside Police Event

STAFFORD, Va. — A 22-year-old Dumfries man was arrested on multiple charges after a reckless driving incident disrupted a National Night Out event at Stafford Market Place on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as Robert Ouzts, was taken into custody after a foot chase that ended near a Little Caesars restaurant in the same shopping center.

The incident occurred around 3:47 p.m. when deputies from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office were providing traffic control for the event. Ouzts, riding a motorcycle without a license plate or helmet, was reportedly driving recklessly in the parking lot and nearly hit several pedestrians. Deputies J.A. Alford and S.C. Martin attempted to stop him as he sped toward Staffordboro Boulevard.

Ouzts briefly tried to flee on foot after abandoning the motorcycle, even losing his footwear in the process. He assaulted one of the deputies before being subdued by a taser near the entrance of a store. The deputy was not injured, and Ouzts was checked by Fire and Rescue personnel at the scene.

Ouzts, who was found to have outstanding warrants from Prince William County, faces several charges including assault on law enforcement, reckless driving, and driving without a license, insurance, or registration. He was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that while the National Night Out event featured several planned demonstrations, Ouzts’ arrest was not among them.
