A Voorhees Township police detective received a 30-day suspension after investigators found he failed to attend a required training class and did not report losing his police badge and identification, according to disciplinary records.
Two members of the Voorhees Township Police Department faced major disciplinary action during 2025, including a detective who failed to report for mandatory training and a special law enforcement officer suspended following a domestic violence-related incident.
The disciplinary cases were disclosed in New Jersey’s annual law enforcement major discipline report.
Detective suspended after failing to attend training
Officer Michael Perez received a 30-day suspension following an Internal Affairs investigation into multiple departmental policy violations.
According to disciplinary records, Perez failed to report to a department-assigned training class and did not notify a supervisor of his absence.
Investigators also determined that Perez lost his police badge and department identification but failed to report the incident.
“Detective did not report to a departmentally assigned training class and did not notify his supervisor,” the report states.
The Internal Affairs investigation sustained violations involving neglect of duty, absence from duty, department property and equipment policies, and conduct deemed subversive to the good order of the department.
Domestic dispute led to second suspension
Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer Marc Scambia received a 20-day suspension stemming from a domestic violence-related incident at his residence.
According to disciplinary records, Scambia was arrested and charged with simple assault following the dispute.
“SLEO Officer was involved in a domestic violence dispute at his residence resulting in his arrest for simple assault,” the disciplinary report states.
Authorities noted that the criminal charge was later dismissed in court and subsequently expunged.
Department sustained policy violations
Despite the dismissal of the criminal case, the department’s administrative investigation found violations of agency standards of conduct, obedience to laws and directives, and other departmental conduct rules.
Neither officer was terminated or demoted as a result of the disciplinary findings.
The disciplinary actions were reported as part of New Jersey’s annual major discipline disclosure requirements for law enforcement agencies.
