Suspect Sought After Mass Shooting in Trenton Leaves 7 Wounded, More Than 50 Shots Fired

Ten people, including four juveniles, were injured in a late-night shooting in Trenton that investigators believe involved multiple gunmen and more than 50 rounds fired.

A massive police investigation is underway after a shooting erupted in Trenton Tuesday night, leaving 7 people wounded and damaging several vehicles and a residence, according to the Trenton Police Department. Police are continuing their search for the shooter this week.

The violence unfolded at approximately 10:30 p.m. near the area of Centre Street and Federal Street after police received a ShotSpotter alert indicating multiple rounds had been fired.

Four juveniles among 10 victims

When officers arrived, they discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the victims included four juvenile females and six adult victims ranging in age from 22 to 34 years old.

“Upon police arrival, multiple persons were found suffering from gunshot wounds,” the Trenton Police Department said in a press release.

All 10 victims were transported to Capital Health Medical Center for treatment.

One victim listed in critical condition

Police said six of the victims were reported in stable condition.

One victim remained in critical but stable condition, while the conditions of the remaining victims were not immediately released.

The crime scene stretched from Centre Street and Furman Street to Centre Street and Hills Place, according to investigators.

More than 50 rounds fired

The Mercer County Shooting Response Team responded to assist with the investigation at both the hospital and the shooting scene.

“The initial investigation indicates that multiple shooting suspects were involved, with over fifty spent rounds of ammunition recovered from the scene,” police said.

Authorities also reported that four occupied vehicles and one unoccupied residence were struck by gunfire.

Summer crime initiative underway

In response to the violence, the Trenton Police Department announced it is partnering with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office on its annual Summer Initiative.

The program increases law enforcement staffing during the summer months and focuses on violent crime, narcotics activity, known offenders, and juvenile curfew enforcement.

“The Summer Initiative is a personnel multiplier instituted to address quality of life offenses and violent crime which tend to increase during the summer months, throughout the city,” the department said.

No arrests have been announced.
