Police release image of suspect after quick theft caught on camera
NEWARK, N.J. — A trip into a Newark store lasted just five minutes, but it was enough time for a thief to steal an electric scooter parked outside, police said.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the theft occurred at approximately 4:25 p.m. on July 29 in the 40 block of Pacific Street.
Police said the victim parked the electric scooter outside before entering a nearby store.
When the victim returned about five minutes later, the scooter was gone.
Investigators said surveillance video captured the suspect taking the scooter and riding away along Pacific Street.
The Newark Police Division has released an image of the suspect and is asking for the public’s help identifying the individual.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips may also be submitted through the Newark Police Division’s website. Information leading to an arrest could qualify for a reward.
