WARREN TWP., NJ—Somerset County authorities have arrested 36-year-old Rajinder S. Randhawa of Raspberry Trail, Warren Township, on charges of insurance fraud. Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman, Jr., and Warren Township Police Chief Robert Ferreiro announced the arrest, which took place on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor, initially alerted the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit to potential fraudulent activities by a fuel delivery trucking company owned by Randhawa. The company allegedly misrepresented the garaging location of its eight trucks on a commercial auto policy application.

An insurance company investigator, conducting a preliminary audit, discovered discrepancies in the July 2023 application, where the trucks were listed as being garaged in Bridgewater. However, the investigation revealed that the trucks were actually located in Linden, New Jersey. By falsely claiming Bridgewater as the location, Randhawa significantly reduced the premium owed, with the difference amounting to approximately $231,431 over six months.

As a result of the investigation, Randhawa was charged with 3rd Degree Insurance Fraud and was released pending a court appearance. The case continues to underscore the ongoing efforts by local and state authorities to combat insurance fraud in the region.
