FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Powerball ticket purchased for Monday night’s drawing is now worth $1 million, and the Virginia Lottery is waiting to see who will step forward to claim the prize.
The winning ticket was bought at Wegmans, located at 2281 Carl D. Silver Parkway in Fredericksburg. The ticket matched the first five numbers—4, 6, 16, 39, and 66—but missed the Powerball number, which was 9. This ticket was the only one in the nation to match five numbers in the January 13 drawing.
No ticket matched all six numbers to win the $285 million jackpot, which means the Powerball jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing increases to an estimated $303 million. The odds of winning the $1 million prize by matching the first five numbers are 1 in 11,688,054.
The winner has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize. Virginia Lottery officials recommend that the ticket holder immediately sign the back of the ticket to secure ownership. When ready to claim the prize, the winner should contact the Virginia Lottery for further instructions.
As a bonus, Wegmans will receive $10,000 for selling the winning ticket. The Virginia Lottery, which directs all profits to K-12 education, raised more than $934 million for schools in Fiscal Year 2024. Fredericksburg, where the ticket was sold, received over $2.6 million in Lottery funds for education last fiscal year.
