Woman injured as Cumberland assault case lands man behind bars

Police say a woman suffered injuries during an early morning incident that led to serious charges and an arrest hours later

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Cumberland man was ordered held without bond after police said a woman was injured during an alleged assault at a city residence, leading officers to seek an arrest warrant and take him into custody later the same day.

The Cumberland Police Department announced the arrest of Christopher Scott Reuschel, 40, following an investigation into an incident reported Sunday morning.

According to police, officers responded at approximately 5:59 a.m. to a residence in the 100 block of East First Street for a reported assault.

When officers arrived, they spoke with a woman who alleged that Reuschel assaulted her before leaving the scene.

Police said officers observed injuries on the alleged victim.

Following an investigation, officers filed charges against Reuschel through the District Court of Allegany County and obtained an arrest warrant.

Reuschel was later located and taken into custody.

After appearing before a District Court commissioner, he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.

Reuschel is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

The charges are allegations. Reuschel is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
