Delaware woman jailed after slicing man in bizarre knife fight
NEW CASTLE, DE – A 32-year-old woman was arrested Monday after allegedly stabbing a man with his own knife during a confrontation outside a New Castle motel, according to Delaware State Police.
The stabbing happened around 2:30 p.m. at the Best Knight Inn on West Avenue, where troopers were called for a reported assault. Investigators say Tanekqua Stanford was speaking with the male victim and three others when she took a pocketknife from the victim’s possession.
When the man asked for the weapon back, Stanford allegedly stabbed him in the arm, causing injuries described as non-life-threatening. He was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
Police said Stanford fled but was found nearby a short time later and taken into custody without incident.
She was transported to Troop 2 and charged with felony assault, felony possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and theft under $1,500.
Stanford was arraigned and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $61,000 cash bond.
