Woman thinks lottery hacked before realizing $422K win

‘Lottery hacked’ shock turns into $422K jackpot win for Virginia woman

CULPEPER COUNTY, Va. — A Virginia woman thought something was seriously wrong when she saw her lottery notification — until she realized it was a life-changing jackpot.

Karla Williams initially believed the system had been compromised after learning she had won a $422,088 Cash 5 with EZ Match jackpot in the March 4 drawing.

After double-checking the numbers on another site, the Culpeper County resident quickly realized the win was real.

The winning numbers were 9, 15, 27, 31 and 33 — a combination she chose using meaningful family dates.

The ticket was purchased online through the Virginia Lottery.

Cash 5 with EZ Match jackpots start at $200,000, with odds of 1 in 1,221,759 to match all five numbers.

Williams, who is retired, plans to use the money to help her family and cover bills.
