WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 23-year-old Woodbridge man was arrested Friday after a domestic altercation at the Bayvue Apartments that escalated to physical violence and the brandishing of a firearm, police said.

Officers responded to the 14100 block of Fisher Avenue at 12:01 p.m. on December 1 following a report of a domestic dispute. The investigation revealed that the accused, identified as Jamal Edwards Haskins, and a 23-year-old woman had engaged in a verbal argument that turned violent.

During the incident, Haskins shoved the victim, grabbed her neck, and displayed a firearm. He also physically prevented the victim from contacting police. The altercation ended when the parties separated, but not before Haskins damaged a television in the residence.

Haskins left the scene but later returned to the residence, where he was detained by officers without incident. The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries, authorities said.

Haskins was charged with strangulation, brandishing of a firearm, preventing the summoning of law enforcement, domestic assault and battery, and destruction of property. A court date is pending, and he is being held without bond.
