Biker killed trying to overtake mini-motorcycles on back road
FRANKFORD, DE – A 22-year-old man was killed in a high-speed motorcycle crash Thursday afternoon after losing control while attempting to pass two mini-motorcycles on a narrow Sussex County road, Delaware State Police confirmed.
The deadly crash occurred just after 4:15 p.m. on Camp Barnes Road, south of Estuary Boulevard. Investigators say the rider, operating a Yamaha YZF motorcycle, was traveling southbound alongside two mini-motorcycles when he tried to overtake them by crossing a double yellow line at a high rate of speed. He lost control, veered off the west side of the roadway, and struck a traffic sign before being ejected from the bike.
The victim, a Millville resident, was wearing a full-face helmet but was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Camp Barnes Road was shut down for approximately two and a half hours as members of Delaware State Police Troop 7’s Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene.
