CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A Kanawha County man was sentenced today to two and one-half years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to court documents and information presented in court, Kevin Maurice Crider, 52, fired a round from a .45-caliber handgun into the ground during a June 8, 2020 dispute with a neighbor in the Marmet area of Kanawha County. Crider admitted that he knew he was prohibited from possessing the firearm as a result of his 2005 felony conviction in Kanawha County Circuit Court for attempted prescription fraud.
U.S. Attorney Will Thompson made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Marmet Police Department.
United States District Judge Irene C. Berger imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Ryan Blackwell prosecuted the case.
