NEWARK, N.J. – Javier Osorio, a 43-year-old man residing in Deptford, New Jersey, has been convicted on charges of drug trafficking and firearms offenses, as confirmed by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.
Following a trial that lasted a week under the purview of U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti in Newark federal court, Osorio was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intention to distribute cocaine and heroin. Additionally, he was convicted for possession of a firearm to facilitate a drug trafficking crime, as well as illegal possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Osorio’s indictment stemmed from a series of incriminating evidence. He had colluded with accomplices to distribute cocaine and more than a kilogram of heroin. The illicit substances were retrieved from his residence.
Osorio was apprehended during a drive from New Jersey to Brooklyn with his co-conspirators, carrying more heroin intended for sale. Law enforcement officers also discovered a loaded stolen firearm concealed under his mattress.
Upon sentencing, Osorio could potentially face up to 20 years in prison for each count of conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine. Further, the unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon could warrant an additional 10-year sentence. Each count also carries a prospective $250,000 fine.
