Philadelphia Seeking Justice for Murder of Prominent LGBTQ Figure in NYC

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The District Attorney’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee is seeking justice for O’Shae Sibley, a 28-year-old Philadelphia native, who was fatally stabbed in New York City.

Last Saturday, Sibley was reportedly confronted by men verbally assaulting him and his friends for being gay.

Sibley was a prominent member of the Black gay community, known in both Philadelphia and New York City, as well as within the dance and arts communities.

Reports indicate a group of men took issue with Sibley’s enjoyment of a Beyoncé song in Brooklyn, leading to the fatal encounter. This committee condemns any form of bigotry and violence and is urging a thorough investigation.

The LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee consists of prosecutors, victim support coordinators, and external leaders within the queer community of Philadelphia. They are working to ensure that justice is served for O’Shae Sibley. Services to honor Sibley’s life will be held on next Monday, in Philadelphia.
