PHILADELPHIA, PA – A convicted murderer who escaped from a suburban Philadelphia prison has been spotted 20 miles from the New Jersey border.

“The manhunt of escaped convict Danelo Cavalcante is still active. Attached is video footage from a residential security camera on the 1800 block of Lenape Road at 1:43 a.m. The fugitive has not changed his appearance,” the Chester County District Attorney said.

Danelo Caval-Cante, 34, received a life sentence last month for killing his former girlfriend in the presence of her children. He escaped while awaiting transfer to Chester State Prison on Thursday morning.

Authorities report that residential security cameras recorded footage of Caval-Cante not far from the prison shortly after midnight on Saturday. Investigations continue.

Danelo Cavalcante, an escaped convict convicted of first-degree murder, was spotted on a residential surveillance camera in Royersford shortly after midnight.

The 34-year-old was seen in the 1800 block of Lenape Road, about 1.5 miles from the prison where he was serving a life sentence. Cavalcante was last seen wearing pants, a light-colored t-shirt, white sneakers, and carrying a backpack. He has long, black curly hair. An attempted burglary reported at 11:30 p.m. on Ballintree Lane in Pocopson Township is also being investigated for possible connection.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers from various agencies including the U.S. Marshals, SWAT, and local and state police are conducting a search in the surrounding areas. The fugitive is originally from Brazil, stands 5 feet tall, weighs 120 lbs., and has brown eyes.

District Attorney Deb Ryan warned the public to remain indoors. “Lock your vehicles. Review your surveillance cameras and contact police if you observe anything suspicious. Danelo Cavalcante is considered an extremely dangerous man. If you see this individual do not approach him. Call 911 immediately.”

Cavalcante was convicted for the fatal stabbing of his 33-year-old former girlfriend on August 16 and was sentenced to life in prison without parole just last week.

A $10,000 reward is offered for information leading to Cavalcante’s capture. Residents are urged to call 911 immediately with any relevant information.
