Copiague Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Illegal Gun and Drug Possession

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – Joe Nunez, a 34-year-old resident of Copiague, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for felony drug and weapon possession charges.

The charges stem from an incident on August 14, 2022, when Suffolk County Police Department officers responded to noise complaints in the area of Campagnoli Avenue.

Upon attempting to approach Nunez, who was operating an unregistered dirt bike, he fled and struck a parked vehicle.

During the ensuing chase, officers observed Nunez discard a loaded firearm and a bag containing drugs. Nunez was later apprehended and arrested.

Nunez was found guilty on May 23, of multiple felony charges, including Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He has multiple prior felony convictions dating back to 2007.
