MANHATTAN, NY – In a recent judgment, Victor Lopez, 60, has been handed a six-year prison sentence for an alarming assault.

On May 9, a New York State Supreme Court jury convicted Lopez of Attempted Assault in the First Degree following an incident where he attempted to push a 19-year-old woman towards the subway tracks at the West 125th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue station.

The assault took place on October 11, 2021, around 4:15 p.m. While the woman was waiting on the platform, Lopez, without any apparent reason, lunged at her, pushing her towards the tracks.

She managed to regain her balance; a train entered the station moments later. Lopez was detained in the station thanks to the actions of fellow commuters and police officers.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. expressed gratitude to the NYPD and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for their contributions to this case’s resolution.
