TRENTON, NJ – A New Jersey Congressman has presented a bill proposing an allocation of $2,000,000,000 from the Treasury for the fiscal year 2024.
New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer introduced the bill this week.
This fund, available until September 30, 2025, is aimed at supporting Israel’s Iron Dome defense system, which counters short-range rocket threats.
The proposed funds are intended to address urgent needs related to “Operation Swords of Iron.” The allocation will be executed through an exchange of letters and is supplementary to the funding already established by the U.S.-Israel Iron Dome Procurement Agreement. It’s important to note that the bill stipulates that the new allocation won’t affect funds provided in prior appropriations for the procurement of the Iron Dome defense system.
The Iron Dome has been pivotal in defending Israel against rocket attacks such as the ones being launched this week from the Gaza Strip ahead of and after an incursion by Hamas. That incursion left nearly 1,000 Israelis and foreign nationals dead, including women and children.
