ROANOKE, VA – A member of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force shot a 40-year-old suspect in Roanoke while serving warrants.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, as reported by Virginia State Police. The suspect, facing charges for failing to register as a sex offender, sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.
Roanoke Police, present at the scene, did not engage their weapons.
The suspect reportedly refused to cooperate and, upon entry by the Marshals into his home, threatened them with a weapon, leading to the shooting. Virginia State Police are conducting an investigation of the incident.
The area around Hampton Avenue SW and Dunmore Street SW was secured by Roanoke Police for investigation purposes. If the suspect recovers, he will face additional charges.
