ELIZABETH, NJ – A large fire engulfed a warehouse on Trumbull Street in Elizabeth, New Jersey, early Friday morning. The blaze, which was first reported around 5:30 a.m. by a passerby, quickly escalated, causing part of the structure to collapse and generating thick smoke visible as far as Staten Island.
The New York City Office of Emergency Management has issued an advisory due to the smoke, informing Staten Island residents of the situation. The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) is assisting in the efforts to contain the fire, deploying two marine units to the scene.
As of now, there are no reports of injuries or anyone being inside the warehouse at the time of the fire. The building is believed to house several businesses. Emergency services are actively working to control the fire and prevent further damage.
OEM officials in nearby Bayonne warn residents that smoke from the fire is hovering through the city and advises residents of limiting their exposure to the smoke.
