MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced the sentencing of 78-year-old doctor George Blatti.

Blatti has been sentenced to five to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to five counts of Manslaughter in the Second Degree.

DA Donnelly stated that Blatti prescribed excessive amounts of dangerous drugs to patients who showed clear signs of addiction and other health crises. These actions resulted in the overdose deaths of five patients between 2016 and 2018.

The DEA Special Agent in Charge, Frank Tarentino, and Nassau County Police Department Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder, emphasized the gravity of Blatti’s crimes and the importance of holding medical professionals accountable for unethical practices.

The Nassau County Police Department’s Asset Forfeiture and Intelligence Unit, in collaboration with the DEA’s Long Island District Office Tactical Diversion Squad, initiated an investigation into several opioid overdoses in August 2018. This led to the discovery of Blatti’s misconduct.
