YORK, PA – A professional minor league baseball player tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident last week, several organizations confirmed on Monday, April 22. Ronny Garcia, a 24-year-old pitcher slated to play for the Class AA team York Revolution, lost his life in a motorcycle crash in Samana, Dominican Republic on Saturday, the 20th of April.
The incident, reported by Hector Gomez, a Major League Baseball Insider, also claimed the life of his father. Garcia, who once signed with the Houston Astros’ farm system in 2016, played in the minor league from 2017 to 2023 and had experience pitching for various double-A teams in North Carolina. His funeral took place on Sunday.
“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Ronny García,” the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, a Single-A affiliate of the Astros in a statement. “Ronny spent parts of three seasons with Fayetteville, always carrying a smile around the ballpark. He was a talented pitcher and a beloved teammate. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
