by Breaking Local News Report

MILLSBORO, DE – Rakeshkumar Patel, a 35-year-old resident of Flushing, New York, has been arrested on charges of felony theft. The arrest followed a joint investigation involving Delaware State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The investigation began in February when a Millsboro woman reported being scammed.

According to detectives, starting in October of the previous year, a suspect impersonated a federal agent and deceived the victim into converting her money into gold, which he claimed he would transport to the U.S. Treasury for safekeeping.

Patel was identified as a suspect in this scheme.

On May 20, Patel was apprehended near Millsboro and subsequently taken to Troop 4 for processing. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and is currently held at Sussex Correctional Institution on a $103,000 cash bond. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to identify additional suspects involved in the scam.
