PASADENA, MD — Two Anne Arundel County police officers have been indicted on charges of misconduct in office following an investigation into their handling of a fatal crash that occurred in Pasadena on December 7, 2023, the department announced Friday.

Corporal K. Schnell and Corporal E. Vasquez were issued criminal summonses after an investigation conducted by the Maryland Office of the Attorney General. The specifics of the alleged misconduct have not been disclosed.

Anne Arundel County Chief of Police Amal E. Awad addressed the indictments in a statement, asserting that after reviewing the evidence available to the department, they have not identified conduct by the officers that would constitute a violation of criminal law.

The department is cooperating with the Attorney General’s Office and is committed to transparency, Chief Awad said, while noting that the officers are entitled to due process as the case proceeds.

The fatal crash at the center of the investigation occurred a year ago, claiming the life of an unnamed individual. The Attorney General’s Office has not yet released further details about the findings that led to the indictments.
