FORT LEE, N.J. — A winter storm bringing snow and ice is expected to hit early Thursday, creating hazardous road conditions for the morning commute, police warned.

The Fort Lee Police Department advised that mixed precipitation will begin around 4 a.m., with forecasts predicting 1 to 3 inches of snow and a layer of ice. Drivers are urged to allow extra time for travel and exercise caution on slippery roads.

Residents parked on streets with “No Parking When Road is Snow Covered” signs may need to move their vehicles to allow plows and emergency vehicles to pass. The Fort Lee Parking Authority will permit free parking in municipal lots, except for the Guntzer Street lot, until the storm passes. The Fort Lee Board of Education has prohibited parking on school property during this time.

Officials are encouraging residents to sign up for emergency notifications via NIXLE by texting 07024 to 888777 for real-time updates.
