East Brunswick man charged with murder after confessing to killing wife

A New Jersey man allegedly confessed to killing his wife, leading to his immediate arrest.

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A 60-year-old man walked into a police station Friday and admitted to killing his wife, authorities said.

At 12:14 p.m. on February 28, Ashraf Tawfik of East Brunswick entered the East Brunswick Police Department and reported that he had killed his wife, officials said. Officers responded to his home on Yorktown Road, where they found Marsail Botros, 58, unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tawfik was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact East Brunswick police or the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
