Hijab wearing woman sought for assaulting young boy at Staten Island Park

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The NYPD is searching for a woman accused of assaulting a 12-year-old boy inside Village Greens Park on Staten Island on the afternoon of Monday, March 31.

According to police, the incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. near Arthur Kill Road and Arden Avenue, when the unidentified woman approached the child and struck him in the face with a basketball. The impact caused the boy to experience head pain and dizziness. He was not hospitalized.

The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction following the assault. Authorities have not disclosed what may have led to the altercation.

The individual is described as a female with a medium complexion and a heavy build. She was last seen wearing a gray hijab, a multicolored shirt, a black jacket, and blue pants.


NYPD urges public help in identifying suspect in park assault

The NYPD has not announced any arrests in the case and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information about the woman’s identity to contact Crime Stoppers.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers review nearby surveillance footage and canvass for additional witnesses in the area surrounding Village Greens Park.
