Evesham officer recognized for response after woman mugged at gunpoint

EVESHAM, NJ – Evesham, New Jersey Police Officer Carley Pizzigoni was recognized as Officer of the Month for April after a traffic stop led to the arrest of two individuals in connection with an altercation and discovery of an imitation firearm and impaired driving.

On April 25, Officer Pizzigoni responded to a report of a possible mugging involving a male suspect and a female victim. While canvassing the area, she observed a vehicle pulling out of a closed business on Main Street, operated by a female matching the initial description.

The driver confirmed she had been in a dispute with her fiancé, who had exited the vehicle and was walking nearby. Backup officers located the male subject, who corroborated the account. During the course of her interaction with the female driver, Officer Pizzigoni noted signs of impairment and observed an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle.

According to police, the female driver stated that the male had a handgun either on him or within the vehicle. Officers conducted a search and located a black airsoft pistol in a holster. The female indicated she believed the weapon to be real and stated that the male subject regularly carried it.

The male subject was arrested and charged with possession of an imitation firearm. The female subject was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence.

Recognition for decisive action

“Great work by Officer Pizzigoni taking an impaired driver off the roadway, as well as an imitation firearm that the suspect was carrying around with the purpose of making others believe it was real,” the department stated in its announcement.

The department did not release the names of the arrested individuals. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The arrest underscores the dangers officers may encounter during routine calls that evolve into more complex investigations.

Officer Pizzigoni’s recognition comes as part of the department’s monthly commendation program, highlighting officers who demonstrate effective and responsible law enforcement.
