WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a violent armed carjacking that took place on Independence Day last year in Southeast Washington, D.C., authorities announced Tuesday.
The carjacking occurred on July 4, 2024, around 9:39 p.m. near the intersection of Howard Road and Suitland Parkway. According to police, the suspect was a passenger in a rideshare vehicle when he brandished a firearm, struck the driver, and demanded the car.
The victim pulled over and exited the vehicle, at which point the suspect fled with it. The driver sustained minor injuries from being struck with the weapon, but was not hospitalized.
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, officers arrested Jerail Stroud, 25, pursuant to probable cause. He has been charged with Theft (First Degree) and Carjacking.
Case closed in armed carjacking that left rideshare driver injured
Police have not disclosed the details of how Stroud was located nearly 11 months after the incident or whether the vehicle was recovered. No additional suspects are believed to be involved in the case.
The Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate similar incidents in the area and encourages anyone with information to contact investigators.
