Retired worker hits $50K lottery win with old favorite

Gwynn Oak gas station sells $50K Pick 5 winner to longtime lottery player

by Local News Report

GWYNN OAK, Md. — A Baltimore County man was left stunned after learning one of his regular lottery numbers finally paid off, landing him a $50,000 Pick 5 win from a ticket purchased earlier this week.

The retired federal employee picked up a $1 straight Pick 5 ticket on Monday, June 9, at the Woodmoor Shell gas station on Liberty Road. The ticket covered both the evening drawing that day and the midday drawing on June 10.

It wasn’t until the following day that he checked his numbers and realized he had matched the winning combination. He recognized the sequence instantly, having played it for years, but visited a local retailer to verify.

The ticket was scanned, confirming a $50,000 prize. Because of the payout size, the man was directed to claim his prize at the Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore, which he did on Thursday.

He plans to use the winnings for home improvements, new furniture, and savings.

Winning ticket earns bonus for Liberty Road retailer

The Woodmoor Shell gas station, which sold the winning ticket, will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for the sale.

The winner opted to remain anonymous but said the prize came at the perfect time.

Pick 5 remains one of the Maryland Lottery’s most played daily draw games, attracting consistent participation across the state.
